A magnetic shield prevents electromagnetic interference from disrupting the functionality of an electronic product. Products used in everyday life such as cell phones, FM radios, and television sets can be affected by interference, and can just as easily be protected by a metal shield. Typical materials for magnetic shielding are highly permeable and highly saturated. Permeability refers to the conducting of magnetic lines of force.

Most devices require a magnetic shield because they are incapable of functioning with any surrounding interference. Sources of magnetic interference include simple magnets, motors, cables, and of course, the Earth’s magnetic field.
